Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Seattle Mariners pitcher Erik Bedard underwent successful surgery on Friday. The procedure was performed by Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles. The surgery revealed an inflamed bursa and a torn labrum. Dr. Yocum debrided the bursa and repaired the labrum. Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Seattle Mariners pitcher Erik Bedard will have shoulder surgery Friday in Los Angeles and he could miss the remainder of the season. Bedard landed on the DL last month because of left shoulder inflammation that sidelined him earlier this season. He had come off the disabled list on July 7, but in four starts since then, Bedard was 0-1 with a 4.15 earned run average. Overall, in 15 starts this season, Bedard is 5-3 with a 2.82 ERA.

Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - The Seattle Mariners on Friday optioned left- handed pitcher Jason Vargas to Triple-A Tacoma and selected the contract of right-hander Doug Fister from Tacoma. Vargas was 3-6 with a 5.08 earned run average in 16 games -- 14 starts -- for the Mariners this season.
