01/22/2010 - Commerce City, CO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Colorado Rapids acquired midfielders Jeff Larentowicz and Wells Thompson from the New England Revolution on Friday for goalkeeper Preston Burpo and defender Cory Gibbs.

In five seasons with New England, Larentowicz has played in 111 career matches and recorded nine goals and nine assists. Thompson has appeared in 71 games in New England, scoring two goals and registering three assists.

Burpo, a six-year MLS veteran, started 24 games and had a 1.67 goals against average for the Rapids. Gibbs appeared in 29 matches and scored one goal for Colorado after being acquired in 2008.

"We're pleased that we were able to complete this trade and bring Preston and Cory to the Revolution," Revolution Vice President of Player Personnel Michael Burns said. "We have areas that need addressing this off-season and we feel this trade helps in some of those areas."

New England also acquired allocation money and a third-round pick in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft.

Following the acquisition of Larentowicz, the Rapids agreed to terms on a new contract with him, officially adding the five-year veteran to their roster.
