Sanchez, Pirates pound Cubs

Baseball Betting Lines

09/10/2007 - Pittsburgh, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Freddy Sanchez went 2-for-5 with a triple and four runs batted in as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago Cubs, 10-5, at PNC Park.

Nyjer Morgan added two hits and a pair of RBI, and Jose Castillo had a pinch- hit two-run double for the Pirates, who have won three of their last five games. Steve Pearce and Jack Wilson also chipped in with RBI for Pittsburgh.

Matt Morris (9-9), who improved to 3-1 since joining the Bucs in a trade from the San Francisco Giants, allowed four runs on seven hits over six innings of work. The big right-hander struck out two and walked a pair.

Alfonso Soriano hit his 24th home run on the season, while Geovany Soto had his first career homer for the Cubs, who fell one game behind Milwaukee in the race for the National League West Division title. The Brewers beat the Cincinnati Reds 10-5 earlier on Sunday.

Jason Kendall had a two-run single for Chicago, which has dropped five of its last seven.

Steve Trachsel (6-10) struggled through only two innings, surrendering six runs on six hits while walking a batter. He has lost his last three decisions.

Chicago got on the board in the top of the second inning when Kendall's two- out two-run single to center gave the Cubs the early advantage.

However, the Pirates responded with six runs of their own in the home half of the second. Adam LaRoche got things started with a lined double to right and came around two score two batters later when Pearce grounded a base hit to center. After Ronny Paulino was retired, Wilson's two-base hit brought in a run. Following a single by Morris that put runners on the corners, Morgan drove in another with a base hit, making it 3-2. Nate McLouth then walked to load the bases and Sanchez's triple brought home three more to up the Bucs' lead to 6-2.

Morgan's base hit in the fourth scored Wilson to give Pittsburgh a 7-2 edge.

The Cubs got two back in the fifth inning when Soriano launched a two-run shot to center.

Soto's solo blast to left in the seventh got the Cubs to within 7-5.

Pittsburgh pulled away in the eighth inning, tacking on three more. The Pirates loaded the bases when Pearce drew a lead-off walk, Paulino singled and Wilson drew a free pass. Castillo then followed with a line-drive two-base hit to right, scoring a pair. Sanchez grounded into a force out to plate another to make it 10-5.

Matt Capps came on for the ninth and retired the Cubs in order.

NFL Football Betting : Odds on NFL Division to Win the Super Bowl

NFL Super Bowl Betting

The AFC South and the NFC East are the favorite divisions to have the next Super Bowl champ among them in the NFL betting odds. But more down to the point, these football odds are in favor of the Indianapolis Colts, by far the strongest team in the AFC South, and the Dallas Cowboys of the NFC East.

Most sports fans would agree that these two teams top the list to win it all before the season even begins. In the BetUS Sportsbook football futures, the Colts are +800 in the odds to win the Super Bowl, while the Cowboys are sitting at +1000 and the Super Bowl XLIV champions New Orleans Saints at +900. In the AFC South, the Colts won the division for five straight years after the 2002 realignment, before the Tennessee Titans won it in 2008. But the Colts came back strong in 2009 to win the division again en route to the Super Bowl. The Cowboys are the favorite to win the NFC East, as well as to advance far into the post season. The Cowboys won the division last season before their horrendous loss in the NFC Divisional playoff to Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. But the ‘Boys will take that loss humbly and be ready for the playoffs this time around.

The NFC South is also very strong, at +600 in the NFL futures, considering that it is home to the defending Super Bowl champions. However, some predictions have the Atlanta Falcons with possibilities of claiming the divisional title this season in place of the Saints, as no team has won back-to-back division championships since the division realignment took place. Let’s not overlook the AFC North at +500. As TO goes to Cincinnati to join Chad OchoCinco and Adam “Pac-Man” Jones, this team looks to claim the division title again. And it is likely they will do so. The Bengals lost in the AFC Wild Card spot in a hard-fought battle against the New York Jets last season. Lest not forget the Pittsburgh Steelers, the XLII Super Bowl Champions… All these teams present interesting odds and matchups for the upcoming season, but the safest and surest bet seems to be with the Colts in the AFC South and the Cowboys in the NFC East.
