The move is retroactive to April 23, leaving him eligible to return May 8.

McCann has been bothered by vision problems in his left eye for the majority of the season. He last played on Wednesday against Washington and went 1-for-4 after a six-game hitless stretch.

Since a 3-for-4 effort on April 10, McCann has just two hits in his last 26 at-bats. He was scratched from Friday's game against Cincinnati.

In 13 games this season, McCann is batting just .195 with two homers and seven runs batted in. He is a career .295 hitter.

The Braves filled the roster spot by recalling catcher Clint Sammons from Triple-A Gwinnett.
