08/10/2010 - Winnipeg, MB (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released kicker Alexis Serna.
In six games this season, Serna connected on just 8-of-14 field goal tries. He also missed four of his six attempts from 40 yards or longer.
"At this time we felt we had to make a decision and move forward in regards to our place-kicking situation," said Blue Bombers general manager Joe Mack. "It is one of the most valuable positions on a football field and we simply needed more consistent production at that spot. Alexis is a great person and has been a valuable part of this organization. We thank him for his services to the Winnipeg Football Club."
Serna had re-signed with Winnipeg in January and was in his third season with the club. He made 40-of-49 field goal attempts last year and in his Bomber career had converted 81-of-113 tries.
The Bombers added kicker Louie Sakoda to the practice roster. Sakoda was an All-American at Utah, where he made 57-of-66 career field goals. He finished the 2009 season as the punter for Saskatchewan and was released by the Roughriders last week after averaging just 33.9 yards on 15 punts with a net average of just 29.0 yards.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch
Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.
Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.
"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
