04/25/2009 - Flushing, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Carlos Beltran continued his scorching start with three hits and Ryan Church drove in three runs, as the New York Mets took advantage of some poor Washington fielding to earn an 8-2 win over the Nationals at Citi Field.
Beltran drove in a run and scored twice for the Mets, who have won two in a row after dropping four straight. The New York center fielder is 16-for-32 during an eight-game hitting streak and leads the National League with a .415 batting average.
Mike Pelfrey (2-0) made a winning return to the rotation after his turn was skipped last Sunday because of forearm tendinitis. He gave up two runs on six hits with three walks and one strikeout in 5 2/3 innings.
Daniel Cabrera (0-2) took the loss for the Nationals, who committed three errors and lost their third straight game. He was charged with five runs -- one earned -- on six hits and four walks in 2 1/3 innings.
Elijah Dukes had two hits with a pair of runs batted in for Washington, but his misplay in the first inning opened the floodgates for three quick New York runs.
After Beltran stroked a two-out single in the bottom of the first and Carlos Delgado walked, David Wright drove a ball to deep center field. Dukes, with sun glasses on the brim of his cap, drifted back to the warning track and appeared set to make the catch but missed it and both runners scored. Wright reached second on the play and scored the third run of the inning on a single to center by Church.
Luis Castillo opened the bottom of the second with a base hit, advanced to second on a bunt by Pelfrey and took third on a single by Jose Reyes before scoring on a two-out base hit by Beltran.
Another Washington error in the third gave the Mets another run. Omir Santos singled with one out and Castillo drew a walk. Pelfrey dropped down another bunt toward first baseman Nick Johnson, who threw the ball past third base and down the left field line, allowing Santos to score for a 5-0 lead.
The Nationals got one back in the fourth when Ryan Zimmerman singled, took second on a wild pitch and scored on a one-out base hit by Dukes. After Josh Willingham drew a walk, Alberto Gonzalez grounded into a double play to kill the rally.
Washington put its first two batters on base in the sixth as Johnson and Zimmerman each singled, but Adam Dunn grounded into a 4-6-3 double play. Dukes then tripled past a diving David Murphy in left field to chase home one run, but Sean Green came on for Pelfrey and got Willingham on a fly ball to right to keep the Mets ahead by three.
New York blew it open in the bottom of the sixth. Murphy singled with one out and raced to third on a base hit by Beltran. After Delgado popped up, Beltran stole second and Wil Nieves threw the ball into center field, allowing Murphy to trot home. Beltran wound up on third and Wright followed with a walk before also swiping second. Church then singled home both runners for an 8-2 cushion.
The Nationals tried to make it interesting in the ninth, loading the bases with two outs against Brian Stokes, but Zimmerman flied out to right to end the game.
Game Notes
Beltran has hit safely in 16 of his 17 games to start the season and has reached base safely in 22 straight games going back to last year...Reyes extended his hitting streak to 11 games...Washington left 10 men on base and went 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position...The Mets brought back Nelson Figueroa, signing the right-hander to a minor league deal after designating him for assignment earlier this week. Figueroa took Pelfrey's turn in the rotation last Sunday...New York also signed veteran infielder Mike Lamb to a minor league deal.

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.
The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.
MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.
Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.

The 2009 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds have been released and Denver Broncos' running back Knowshon Moreno has been made the opening favorite.
Moreno was selected in the first round of April's NFL draft and is expected to carry the rushing load for the Broncos this season. And with Jay Cutler now in Chicago, Moreno might be expected to be Denver's entire offense.
Betting Lines from sports betting lines have made Moreno a 5/2 favorite to win this year's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Fellow running back Chris “Beanie” Wells (Arizona Cardinals) is right behind Moreno at 7/2, while Donald Brown (Indianapolis Colts) and receiver Michael Crabtree (San Francisco 49ers) are 5/1 to win. Quarterbacks Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) and Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions) are 7/1 and 8/1, respectively.
A couple of players who present some value are Josh Freeman, Shonn Green and Darrius Heyward-Bey.
Freeman needs to beat out Byron Leftwich to become the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but if he does, he has a lot or raw talent and could use the weapons around him (i.e. Kellen Winslow Jr. and Antonio Bryant) to be very successful in his first season.
Green enters a crowded backfield in New York, but considering both Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are unhappy about their contract situations and might holdout, the former Iowa product could become the Jets' primary back.
Everyone was shocked when Al Davis took Heyward-Bey with the eighth overall pick in April's draft, but the kid has a tremendous amount of talent and if quarterback JaMarcus Russell takes the next step this year, the former Maryland product could blossom. Plus, Heyward-Bey will be looking to prove the people wrong who said Oakland should have taken Michael Crabtree with the No. 8 pick.
And if you're looking for a deep sleeper, check out Pat White at 30/1. He enters the Miami Dolphins vaunted “Wild Cat” offense and could be a big time playmaker.
